Kyle Field: Home of the 12th Man and a Texas Tradition Guide
Welcome to Kyle Field, the iconic home of the Texas A&M Aggies football team! More than just a stadium, Kyle Field is a living, breathing monument to Aggie spirit, tradition, and the legendary 12th Man. Whether you're a die-hard football fan or simply curious about Texas A&M culture, a visit to Kyle Field is an experience you won't soon forget. Prepare to be awestruck by its sheer size and the palpable energy that permeates the air, especially on game days. Kyle Field's history stretches back to 1904, when it was originally a small, wooden structure. Over the decades, it has undergone numerous expansions and renovations, transforming into the colossal stadium it is today. The stadium is named after Edwin Jackson Kyle, an 1899 graduate of Texas A&M and professor of horticulture, who donated the land for the original field. The "12th Man" tradition, where a student stands ready to enter the game if needed, is a unique and powerful symbol of Aggie loyalty and dedication. It began in 1922 when E. King Gill, a student, was called from the stands to suit up, embodying the spirit of being ready to serve the team. While attending an Aggie football game is the ultimate Kyle Field experience, tours are available at other times, allowing you to explore the stadium's inner workings and learn more about its history. On game days, immerse yourself in the pre-game tailgating scene, a vibrant display of Aggie camaraderie and culinary delights. While not specifically a culinary destination, game day offers a chance to sample classic Texas barbecue, burgers, and other stadium fare. Don't forget to try some local craft beer!
